Litigation Funding Experience. Tim’s four years as an investor in legal assets have provided insights into needed innovation. Ideas include improving investment selection and outcomes through AI, enhancing legal assets’ liquidity, financing defendants’ cases, and enabling law firms to develop key expertise. Tim is delighted to serve on the Advisory Board for Canotera, which is advancing best-in-class litigation prediction, powered by AI.

Governmental Perspective. Crafting an understanding of governments’ objectives, Tim has been an effective advocate for private actors investing in emerging markets and a powerful policy advisor to governments, including in roles at the US Department of Commerce and advising various Central European and East Asian governments. Tim’s service as the Director of Legal Strategy at the Emerging Markets Investors Alliance continues this tradition.

Examples include his work on natural disaster relief in Caribbean sovereign debt instruments, and his work with INSOL International to focus on sustainability and resilience objectives in connection with debt restructuring. Tim’s service on the boards of non-profits Solar One and The Center for Family Support has created skills and provided opportunities to give back to his home city.

He has designed many solutions from scratch, with public examples like negotiating Iceland’s first distressed bank scheme of arrangement and forging a means for bondholders to negotiate and to vote on plans of reorganization in Brazilian insolvency proceedings.

Thought Leadership. Tim, a frequent publisher and speaker, advocates for industry-enhancing steps and distills practical lessons from ongoing work. Key examples include lecturing at Columbia Law School on AI’s impact on law practice and speaking at INSOL International about the use of litigation funding to support Latin American insolvency proceedings.
